- Prominent TV5 journalist, Erwin Tulfo announced that he resigned to NEWS5 after seven years of service.
- He said that his reason to leave the network was because of ‘professional and personal’ matters.
- There’s a big possibility that the rift between him and Ed Lingao was the reason for his resignation.
Erwin Tulfo, one of the most known NEWS5 journalist, ended his seven years of service to the news network.
Tulfo announced his resignation in his official Facebook account on Sunday.
He didn’t mentioned the reason why he leaved the network and he only said that his reason to resign was ‘professional and personal’ and he didn’t hold a grudge against the management of TV5
But it seems that the word war between Tulfo and TV5 journalist Ed Lingao and the disciplinary action gave by TV5 to him, was the reason why Erwin resigned from the network
Erwin Tulfo said in his statement.
Tulfo said that a famous TV network already offered him a job as radio host, newscaster and already talking about the contract.
He would announce his new home on August, but now he’s going to spend his time with his relatives in Davao and abroad.
Tulfo said.
But he said that his fans must not worry because his daily morning livestream on Facebook would still continue.
His brother Ben Tulfo, who also slammed Ed Lingao resigned from the network.
Last month, the Tulfo Brothers and TV5 Journalist Ed Lingao engaged in a war of words over media ethics and professionalism, using various news platforms.
The war started when Lingao, called out Erwin Tulfo for reacting to fake news about Senator Risa Hontiveros allegedly expressing her support to the Maute Terrorist Group.
He also criticized Tulfo for cussing several times on air, a clear violation in code of ethics for journalists.
But Tulfo said that he only cussed during commercial breaks of his radio program and only his Facebook subscribers saw and heard him swearing during the break.
Because of the word war between the NEWS5 journalists, TV 5 management decided to took disciplinary action to the Tulfo Brothers and Ed Lingao.
“It is clear that this exchange was not only hurtful to the parties directly concerned but also goes against the work and journalistic ethic that News5 strives to uphold. In view of this, TV 5 has moved to undertake disciplinary action on those concerned. TV5 apologizes to its audience and the general public for this unfortunate episode that should have been kept between and among Kapatids,” TV5 said in their official statement.
