President Rodrigo Duterte approved the request of Thinking Pinoy Blog founder Rey Joseph Nieto for acess to cover Palace events during a meeting on Tuesday.
This is an open opportunity for social media users to partake in the reporting of major Palace events.
Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella confirmed that the President had given his go signal.
Mr. Abella also clarifies that the bloggers did not have any intention of becoming members of the Malacañang Press Corps which consisted of professional journalists of major media networks.
The Presidential Spokesperson also said that the bloggers will not have a permanent office and will accommodate only a very limited number of people who are interested in access to fresh informations.
This move is a very big opportunity to the blogging industry of the Philippines because they are now recognized by the government as one of the source of information on Social Media.
The opposition labeled the blogs of the Pro-Duterte bloggers as fake news and some Senators were also working to fight alleged misinformation and punish several blogs for allegedly reporting fake news on social media.
