  • Militant groups expressed their disappointment to the government by conducting a rally in Mendiola on Friday.
  • As response, Presidential son and Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte slammed militant officials Renato Reyes and Rep. Carlos Zarate for criticizing the government which accommodated them.
  • Reyes explained why they are disappointed to the government.

On June 30, Militant groups marked the first anniversary of the Presidency of Duterte by rallying in Mendiola.

Militants carried some Facebook angry and sad emojis to express that they gave a fail grade to Duterte’s perfomance in his first year as President.

On the same day, Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo ‘Pulong’ Duterte slammed BAYAN secretary-general Renato Reyes and Bayan Muna representative Carlos Zarate.

In his Facebook post, Duterte criticized the two militant officials for always complaining about the policies of the government, despite of being accommodated by the current administration several times.

Pulong said that the militant officials think that President Duterte is a computer who can fulfill his promises and resolve the all problem of the Philippines for one year. He also told the Reyes and Zarate that they are also a disappointment.

“Galing ng dalawang to uy, sa ilang taon walang presidente ang pumansin sa inyo, pagkatapos ay pinalo palo kayo. Anong tingin niyo sa gobyerno? Isang click lang delete na lahat? Na parang computer? Kakapal ng mga mukha niyo no?” Duterte said.

“Kayo kaya ang maging presidente mga iho? Tingnan natin kung may matitira sa pilipinas! KAYO DIN KAKADISMAYA!” he added.

During an interview, militant officials expressed their disappointment to the government who didn’t fulfilled their promises to the activists.

“May mga binitiwang salita na positibo, may simulaing positibo ang pangulo, pero matapos ng isang taon parang nabawi, parang umatras, parang nabaligtad yung sinimulan na yan,” Renato Reyes said during an interview with the media.

One of the reason why the militants became disappointed was the help received by the government from the U.S troops during the Marawi City crisis.

The militants also said that the first year of President Duterte is full of human rights violation, misogyny and offensive jokes.

One year ago, President Duterte who claimed that he’s from the left, let the militants enter Malacañang palace to hear what reforms they want for the country.

To show their gratefulness to the new administration, they even gave President Duterte a painting and a handmade bead necklace made by the Lumads.

One year already passed and the relationship between the government and the militants changed and became bitter.

The activists planned a big rally on the upcoming second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte to express their disappointment to the government, a sign that the good relationship between the government and the militants has already ended.
