Senator Migz Zubiri took offense to the accusations of Senator Antonio Trillanes against him and his colleagues that they are ‘whitewashing’ the Bureau of Immigration bribery scandal.
In a televised interview Senator Trillanes accused Senator Zubiri and Gordon of trying to ‘whitewash’ the BI scam probe.
During the Senate Session No. 50, Senator Migz Zubiri delivered a privilege speech denouncing all the claims of Trillanes during the televised interview.
He was also insulted after Trillanes called his colleagues who voted against him as “defender of the faith” which means allegedly defending President Rodrigo Duterte.
In response, Trillanes admitted that he really intended to offend Zubiri.
“If there’s an action, there is a counter reaction. That’s what happened when they blocked the referral to my committee. Therefore they should expect me to react on the matter. And I’m glad that the gentleman took offense because in fact the statement was meant to be offensive,” Trillanes said.
Trillanes also brought back the cheating allegation of Zubiri in 2007 elections leading to his resignation in 2011.
Trillanes also said that Zubiri wanted a war, he must prepare to have war and he will not back down to him.
After bringing up the cheating allegation against him, Zubiri also brought up the treason and rebellion issue against Trillanes and hinting the motives of Trillanes to destroy the image of former Vice President Binay and alleged secret bank accounts of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“I never cheated. I was cheated in behalf of the Team Unity. The gentleman was also accused of rebellion and treason. He was lucky the former president pardoned him,” Zubiri said.
“I’m one of the amiable senators of this chamber but if you pick a fight, I didn’t become world champion in arnis for nothing. Come out here, don’t say it in the media,” Zubiri challenged Trillanes.
Because of the heated exchange between the two Senators, Senate President Koko Pimentel suspended the session.
After that, Zubiri confronted Trillanes and their colleagues including Senator Pacquiao pacified them.
