WATCH: English-fluent netizens respond to Jordanian Actress who mocks Filipino’s accent

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) posted a Facebook video against the Jordanian Actress Mais Hamdan who mocked the English accent of some Filipinos working abroad in a talk show.

Their video went viral on the internet after it was shared by thousands of angry Filipinos who got offended by Mais statement against the OFWs who were not so good in english.

Netizens ‎روبينا عبدولرازاك‎  and Juhairah Bilao posted their own videos on Facebook to send their message against Hamdan.

In the six minute video posted today, Bilao said that the actress not insulted her, but the whole Filipino nation.

She informed the actress that “Mais” in Filipino language means sweetcorn.

“Sweetcorn is such an affordable… cheap!,” Bilao said while comparing sweetcorn to Hamdan’s personality.

The netizen also challenged the actress to do an English tongue twister to prove her skill in the American language.

“Too funny to mock Filipino accent? Try to check.. double check your accent first, like can you do  Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers. A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked. If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, Where’s the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?” Bilao said.

Bilao said that the Jordanian actress generalized that all the Filipinos working abroad got bad accent when it comes in speaking English language.

She also informed that actress that the Filipinos maintained being one of the best in the world when it comes on the IT-Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector because of our skill in communicating in English.

“You know, it’s a low mentality if you generalize a nation just based on the few that you encountered,” Bilao said.

The angry netizen also labeled the actress as ‘desperate clown who want to laugh at those Filipino to desperately being notorious or popular’.

Another netizen who works in Saudi Arabia also sent her message to the Jordanian Actress.

According to عبدولرازاك‎ , maybe Hamdan only encountered Filipinos who came from provinces in the Philippines, although they are working so hard to earn money for their families despite of being not so good in English accent.

She also expressed her frustration on how the Jordanian actress degraded the Filipino people in their national television that served their country well.

“Those people that serve you in Dubai to give you the best care of your plastic face, finish their college so hard, leave their children to other people just to take care of people like you still you are so ungrateful.” she said.

She also believed that if the Filipinos used to communicate in a purely English Accent, the Egyptians/Jordanians would hardly understand it, so the OFWs need to adjust their way of talking.

The OFW mocked the appearance of the actress and labeled her as full of plastic surgeries.

Both videos went viral on the internet and the two netizens gained support from the netizens for their braveness to call out the actress.

Because of the rage of the Filipino netizens against the actress, the Facebook page of Mais Hamdan deactivated her Facebook account after she received tremendous amount of online attacks from the angry OFWs.

Hamdan, in a talk show mocked the English accent of the Filipinos that she encountered.

She even impersonated the accent that she heard and made fun of it while laughing together with the host.

This was what she said:

“How are you Maám and Sir? Good morning. How are you today?”

“Marry Christmas (instead of Merry Christmas). Maám today, we have a new collaction (instead of collection).”

“You can buy everything at 50%. Maám we that one in black, and that one in yellow.”

“No Maám, we don’t have red in that one. If you want that one Maám, I will call my supervisor, and get from the other store. I will ask that one.”

“Maám, if you come back tomorrow that 50% will finish. Maám you’re so pretty. Oh, my God, she is so pretty.”

The controversial statement of Hamdam was aired on Lahonwbas, a satire entertainment program hosted by Hicham Haddad.

As of writing, Hamdan is not yet releasing any statement on the criticisms that she received after her actions.
