Veteran columnist reveals Globe and Smart telecom allegedly funding the terrorist group NPA for P3 billion a year

Manila Times Columnist Rigoberto Tiglao had a shocking revelation that he wrote in his January 12 article.

In his article, Tiglao said that the two telecom giants in the Philippines, Smart and Globe has became the biggest source of money for the Communist Party of the Philippines and its armed wing, the terrorist group New People’s Army.

His sources said that the two companies, financed the CPP-NPA in exchange of the safety of their 20,000 telecom towers that built all over the country which cannot be guarded by the authorities all the time.

Tiglao believed that the lowering cases of cell sites being destroyed by the terrorist group is because of the alleged agreement between the two companies and the terrorists.

“The telcos have calculated that it is cheaper to pay the NPA than hire heavily armed private security guards, who have proven again and again to be so quick to surrender to communist terrorists. “The NPA in many instances, didn’t even have to fight the security guards,” a source said. “The NPA simply tells them they will attack the site, and the security guards abandon their posts. Why shouldn’t they?” Tiglao said in his article.

Tiglao wrote that the telcos is giving 3 billion pesos to the CPP-NPA and the huge part of the money are received directly by their top leaders including the Filipino Communist chairman Joma Sison who’s still in exile in the Netherlands.

“NPA had been demanding “P50,000 to P200,000 as yearly tax per site, and as much as P500,000 for a newly set up cell site.” Tiglao said.

Tiglao also mentioned that a military intelligence source said that there’s a secret alliance between the telcos and communists, moreover the NPA encampments usually had a strong cell signals that the rebels rely on.

New People’s Army officials were also spotted using the latest Apple laptops that connected on the internet which they allegedly used to communicate with their members.

The two telcos are not yet giving any comments on the accusations of Tiglao.

What can you say about this, do you believe on the claims of Tiglao against the two telcos? Comment your thoughts below!
