“Baguio on red alert?” Netizens worries after recent attacks of alleged NPA rebels in Benguet

Netizens worried on circulated rumors that Baguio City and other municipalities in Benguet was on red alert after alleged members of New People’s Army burned two trucks containing copper concentrate in Ampucao itogon, Benguet Thursday.

 

Two trucks owned by Philex Mining were burned by suspected NPA rebels.

An explosive was placed in the two vehicles but the operators of the trucks were safe after the suspected rebels allowed them to leave.

According to the witnesses, the motives of the rebels in the arson incident was to give a lesson to Philex mines which owns the trucks.

A Facebook page based on Baguio City named 9Baguio also posted an unconfirmed reports that the Abu Sayaff and NPA were plotting a terrorism activity in the crowded places of Baguio City and La Trinidad.

The source of the information according to the page came from the Philippine Military Academy.

A Netizen who works in Philex Mining expressed his sadness after the trucks were burned.

Walang puso ang my gawa nito… philex is a responsible mining dito kme kumukuha ng ikabubuhay nmin at png suporta sa pamilya nmin volvo 129 and volvo 127″ Netizen Reynaldo Tullao wrote in his post.

But City Government of Baguio and the Philippine National Police is not yet confirming the rumors circulated on the internet.

Last week, a fake intelligence report circulated on social media informing the Netizens that the Abu Sayaff already entered Baguio City and plotting to bomb a mall.

The unconfirmed reports may possibly affect the tourist visits in the upcoming Panagbenga Festival next month in Baguio City because of being afraid to became a victim of terrorism.
