Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri had nothing but praise to Special Assistant to the President Christopher ‘Bong’ Go during the senate hearing on the controversial frigate deal by Philippine Navy Monday.
In his speech, Senator Zubiri vouched for Bong Go’s integrity because he had known the assistant of the President for almost 20 years.
“Not once did I hear any complaint against him (Go), ni minsan hindi ako nakarinig ng complaints laban sa kanya during that time when his principal was a congressman and Mayor of Davao City,” he said.
Zubiri said that he has many friends with businesses in Davao City and he didn’t heard any reports that Bong Go did anything wrong.
“Each time they would ask assistance to him to facilitate them, para hindi sila ma-red tape, never si Secretary Bong Go humingi ng lagay, ng fixers fee, ng porsyento sa negosyo, wala. He just did his job judiciously, religiously and he did it well.” Zubiri said.
The senator believed that the accusations against Bong Go were all fake news.
“Kaya all of these that’s coming out is really fake news, eh ayaw niya ngang mailagay sa limelight eh. Sa totoo lang, kapag may nag papa picture sa kanya pinapagalitan niya dahil ayaw niyang mangibabaw and too put it lightly, the only time he allowed himself to shine is when he’s at the top of the stage, singing his Karaoke songs.” he said.
Zubiri said that Bong Go has the characteristics that a true public officials should have.
“Bong Go has loyalty, integrity and honesty, kaya ako hindi ako naniniwala sa mga fake news na yan,” he said.
He also clarified that they didn’t talk with the President’s assistant for months and all the words that he said came from the heart.
After he sent his message to Bong Go, Zubiri shared that he saw the nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinzon and he asked himself when would the Philippines could acquire those powerful ships.
Zubiri also expressed his support to the AFP modernization program and shared that the submarine offered by Russia is an opportunity that the Philippine government should not be wasted.
