C-130 Cargo Transport Aircraft to transfer fish products from Mindanao to Luzon, vegetables from Luzon to Mindanao

Another ambitious project was planned by Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) and Department of National Defense (DND) that might solve the problem of the fishermen who had some problems in selling their catch.

The “Philippine Food Skyway” is a joint project of DAF and DND that would use the C-130 Cargo Transport Aircrafts of the Philippine Air Force to transfer fish products from Mindanao to Cebu, Metro Manila and Luzon.

According to Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol, the Philippine Food Skyway is a strategy to connect the farmers and fishermen in the distant islands of the country to the big markets using Air Force Cargo Transport Planes.

“On Monday, shortly before a Cabinet Meeting which President Rody Duterte will preside in Malacañang, Sec. Lorenzana and I will sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to officially start this unique food delivery project.

In the proposed MOA, the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries will cover the fuel and maintenance expenses for the C-130 Cargo Planes which will be used in the project.” Piñol wrote.

One C-130 Cargo Transport Aircraft is cable of carrying about 20 tons of cargo.

The Agriculture Secretary also said that after the fish products was unloaded in Luzon, the Cargo Planes will then be loaded with vegetables from Cordillera Provinces which could be delivered to Visayas and Mindanao.

The Philippine Food Skyway Project is a concept in food supply repositioning that the Agriculture Secretary designed ten years ago.

But he warned that fish caught illegally will not be accepted.
