Suspect in Resorts World Manila attack set himself on fire. Bag full of casino chips recovered – NCRPO

(UPDATED) National Capital Region Police (NCRPO) Director Oscar Albayalde told the reporters that the suspect in Resorts World Manila attack is possibly a foreigner who lost so much money in gambling.

Meanwhile, PNP Chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa confirmed during an interview that the still unidentified suspect was confirmed dead by authorities.

“Patay na? Very good?” Bato Dela Rosa told one of his men.

“As of now patay na, yung suspect” told the reporter.

According to NCRPO Chief Albayalde, the suspect set himself on fire. His burned body was found in the 5th floor of the building.

The NCRPO chief also confirmed that the gunman didn’t shoot people, but only the things inside the gambling room that located in the second floor of the building.

CCTV footages also not able to show how the suspect was able to bring heavy powered firearm and gasoline inside the casino.

“Because of the smoke, naging blurred ‘yung vision sa CCTV. Doon nawala ‘yung vision sa kanya.” Albayalde told the press.

The investigation said that the lone suspect didn’t go to the Casino to play, but only to create trouble and steal casino chips.

Albayalde said that the suspect carried a baby armalite and the people went panic when they saw him carrying a firearm.

The suspect also entered the building through the parking area of the casino. They believe that the suspect is addicted to gambling and already lost his sanity after losing so much money.

“There is no indication that this is a terror attack. Kagagawan ito ng isang nababaliw na tao” Albayalde told the press.

Cops also recovered the stolen chips worth P113-M inside the bag of the suspect.

There are 51 reportedly injured because of the attack happened in Resorts World Manila and the authorities claimed that the building was already cleared.

On Friday midnight, a masked gunman entered the gambling area of Resorts World Manila and allegedly stole casino chips and fired gunshots that caused panic to the people inside the building.

Islamic State even claimed that they are responsible in the attack, but the PNP later debunked it and they said that the incident is not related to terrorism.
